The introduction of HEPRO, made by Richard Brattli, coordinator of the Norwegian Healthy Cities Network, triggered plenty of interest among 70 leading European politicians.

As part of WHO’s annual meeting with the Healthy Cities Network and cooperation cities, the mayors and a number of other political leaders also discussed challenges currently facing the public health. The meeting was held in the Turkish city of Bursa.

- There is great political interest concerning the issues raised by HEPRO. It turns out that many feel their background information is too narrow, especially with regards to evaluating the consequences implementations made as a result of political resolutions can have on public health, says Richard Brattli.

HEPRO focuses on the importance of contributing to a public health work based on knowledge, with emphasises on developing systems for health surveillance and crisis assessment.

- Several participants pointed out the importance of cooperating across borders. HEPRO shows how we can work together to solve tasks that would have been difficult for the partners to handle on their own, says Brattli.

Mr. Richard Brattli
