Dialogue was a project idea that 14 partners developed and applied for funding through the Baltic Sea Region programme 2007 – 2013.
The Lisbon/Gothenburg strategies underline the integration of environment, economy and social conditions equally in sustainable development. Good and equally distributed health resources are fundamental to sustainable economic growth. Despite an overall improvement in health, the health among different socioeconomic groups improving differently, which create unequal opportunities for economic growth, often in specific geographical local communities. It has been documented, that many resources; human, social and economical capital are lost due to poor health and its consequences. In an EU context there is increased political awareness of the problem, unfortunately it has been difficult to demonstrate effective means of interventions to counteract the development. Thus it is crucial to further raise the understanding of the issue and the need for innovative solutions in regional and local economic development policy making and planning.
The main objective was to develop and implement innovative integrated approaches for policy makers and practitioners at regional and local level, so different policy sectors would take health and health development into account when developing a sustainable social, environmental and economic policy. DIALOGUE wanted to promote sustainable development through dialogue between countries, sectors, research and practise.
